One of Midway's first ventures into 3D gaming, Mortal Kombat turned the normal 2D fighting environment into three dimensions to compete with the likes of Virtua Fighter and others of the genre. The game adds new levels and playable characters like Fujin, Kai, and Tanya alongside old favorites like Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero. It's release was generally well received and was praised for its fast gameplay.
